OutRight Action International, a leading international LGBT human rights
organization, has issued a pioneering report titled “Vulnerability
Amplified: The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on LGBTIQ people” which
documents the effect of the pandemic on LGBTIQ people.
Based on almost 60 rapid research interviews conducted with LGBTIQ
people in 38 countries from around the world (including Lebanon), the
report shows that the challenges faced by LGBTIQ people during these
challenging times are not only specific but amplified compared to the
broader population.
Some of the challenges documented in the report include:
- Devastation of livelihoods
- Disruptions in accessing health care
- Elevated risk of domestic and family violence
- Social isolation and increased anxiety
- Scapegoating, societal discrimination and stigma
- Abuse of state power
- Concerns about organizational survival
The report explains these challenges and gives important highlights
on the effect of the pandemic on LGBTIQ people and provides
recommendations for governments, donors and civil society groups.
